About PAMI
The Pan African Materials Institute (PAMI) is an Africa Center of Excellence (ACE) of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria through a credit from the World Bank.
The project is coordinated by the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria and the Association of Africa Universities (AAU), Accra-Ghana.
PAMI is the only regional Center of Excellence in Materials Science and Engineering in West Africa, which aims to train a critical mass of materials scientists and engineers to add value to the minerals and materials resources of West and Central Africa. This is achieved by engaging teams of mathematicians, physicists, chemists, biologists, materials scientists, engineers and relevant industry in inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research, education and industrial application of results.
The Institute is structured into three Focused Research Groups (FRGs) namely:
- Bio-materials Focused Research Group (Focusing on materials for health care)
- Energy Research Group (Focusing on organic solar cells, Organic Light Emitting Devices (OLEDs) and energy storage).
- Multi-Functional Research Group (Focusing on water filtration, mineral processing, corrosion of oil and gas facilities, sustainable building materials).
PAMI is governed by a Project Implementation Team (PIT) supervised by a Project Executive Team (PET). The Center also works with a network of local, regional, and International partners as well as industry partners.
